Glycolysis is the conversation of glucose to pyruvate or lactate in the cytosol of the cell along with the production of a little amount of energy. Gluconeogenesis is the process by which glucose molecules are produced from non-carbohydrate precursors like lactate and glucogenic amino acids. Gluconeogenesis is partly mitochondrial and partly cytoplasmic and occurs mainly in the liver and to a certain extent in the renal cortex.

GLYCOLYSIS ( lysis- degradation) It is a metabolic pathway that converts glucose into pyruvate. GLUCONEOGENESIS It is a metabolic pathway in the formation of glucose from certain non-carbohydrate carbon substrates. **not to be confused with GLYCOGENESIS**

Glycolysis is breakdown of glucose for energy need and gluconeogenesis is synthesis of glucose from non carbohydrate source like lipid and protein.
