Assessment of the reflexes is one of the fundamental components of neurological examination in clinics. Absence of reflexes can be confirmed by eliciting it after reinforcement. One of the most common method of reinforcement is Jendrassik maneuver. During examination of reflexes, the patient is asked to hook the flexed fingers of both the hands together and pull them as strongly as they can. Studies have shown that reinforcement through Jendrassik maneuver can bring reflexes in up to 70% of the cases where prior areflexia was noted.
