What are the afferent and efferent branches of the Corneal reflex?
Corneal reflex is the reflex when the eye closes in response to a touch. It is executed by the muscle orbicularis oculi. The afferent nerves of the reflex are ophthalmic division of fifth nerve and the efferent signal is carried through seventh nerve. In conditions like hemiparesis, upper motor neuron lesion, multiple sclerosis, brain stem strokes or cerebellopontine angle tumors the reflex is decreased causing corneal drying and damage.
