Prevention of Avian Influenza in Elderly • Avoid close contact with suspected or confirmed cases of avian influenza. • Avoid contact with infected birds. Since nobody really knows which bird is infected therefore, it is better to avoid all birds. • Avoid visiting bird markets and poultry farms in foreign countries. • Avoid traveling to countries where currently or previously avian influenza cases are known. • Practice hand hygiene and cleanliness. • Consult a doctor immediately if you feel ill especially after consuming a meal of bird meat. • Take flu shots/vaccine. It is the most effective way of prevention in elderly.
