Aortic dissection is described as separation of the aortic wall layers that occurs due to tears in the intima. The separation spreads either proximally or distally due to blood entering the space that is created between the intima and the media layer. The common causes that lead to the development of aortic dissection among many include: - Arterial hypertension - Marfan syndrome - Ehler-Danlos syndrome - Familial cause - Cystic medial necrosis - Iatrogenic causes Text Reference: https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/2062452-overview Image Source: https://www.emra.org/emresident/article/aortic-dissection-overview/
