The Heimlich maneuver or abdominal thrusts, is a first aid procedure that helps to treat upper airway obstructions by foreign objects. It is performed by positioning oneself behind the patient and making sure that he/she is standing. The person should be made to lean forward and five blows should be given to their back with the heel of the hand while your arms should be around their waist. Make a fist and place it just above the navel, thumb side in and grab the fist with your other hand and push it inward and upward at the same time. Five of these abdominal thrusts need to be performed and the procedure should be repeated until the object is expelled. However, the procedure needs to be performed differently if the patient is a pregnant woman or an infant. I'd suggest watching a good video on how the heimlich maneuver is performed to get a better idea.
