When you scratch your nails or fingers run over your skin and produce very mild and tolerable level of pain. This pain is detected by brain which releases a neurotransmitter called Serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter which makes you feel good and happy. It provides you oh-so-good sensation after scratching. The more you scratch the more serotonin and the more you feel good! To stop scratching, you need self-control, distraction and immediate external help. Whenever you catch yourself scratching, tell yourself to rest for 1 minute. After 1 minute the urge dies. Secodnly, distract yourself with any work, social media or anything else. Lastly, use some external help in the form of water and lotions.
