Dubin-Johsnon Syndrome

Dubin-Johsnon Syndrome

Dubin-Johnson Syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by conjugated hyperbilirubinemia. The condition arises secondary to defect in gene encoding multi-drug resistant protein. The multi-drug resistant protein is essential in excretion of bilirubin. However, the bile salts are excreted normally. Total bilirubin is elevated. The Dubin-Johnson Syndrome is a benign condition. In unrelated abdominal surgical procedures, the liver is incidentally found to be black in color in case of Dubin-Johnson Syndrome. The presence of black liver differentiates Dubin-Johsnon Syndrome from Rotor’s Syndrome.
