Recurrent inflammation leading to ulcers in large gut is called as ulcerative colitis. It is one of the diseases included in inflammatory bowel diseases. It is a slow developing disease. It presents as recurrent episodes of abdominal pain, diarrhea, blood in stools, rectal pain or bleeding, weight loss, fatigue and fever. The symptoms are similar to crohn's disease. To differentiate between these many pathological microscopic and macroscopic features are seen. Ulcerative colitis also includes some extra-intestinal features. These include: oral ulcers, erythema nodosum, uveitis, arthropathy, pyoderma granulosum and pan sclerosing cholangitis. Pansclerosing cholangitis is a commonly seen manifestation with ulcerative colitis.
