Appendix is also called as abdominal tonsil because of the presence of abundant amount of lymphoid tissue.There a few sequelae of acute appendicitis 1. Resolution ( the inflammation may subside and resolution occurs with some scarring appendix) 2. Appendicular lump/ mass, this is will happen within 48-72 hours of inflammation (body tries to localize the inflammation 3. Appendicular abscess (formation of pus within an appendicular lump 4. Gangrenous appendicitis (thrombosis of vessels in the mesoappendix resulting gangrenous change in the appendix 5. Perforation (the most commonest site of perforation is the tip of appendix because of meagre blood supply and also can happen at the base due to pressure necrosis 6. Free perforation lead to generalized peritonitis 7. Portal pyema 8. Septicemia 9. Mucocele of appendix
