In pleural effusion, vocal resonance and tactile vocal fremitus are reduced whereas in pleural consolidation, vocal resonance and tactile vocal fremitus are increased. In pleural effusion, there are no added sounds whereas in pleural consolidation, there are coarse creps. In pleural effusion, the percussion is stony dull whereas in pleural consolidation the percussion is dull. In pleural effusion, the egophony is absent whereas in pleural consolidation the egophony is present.
