How did the epidemiology of the 2009-2010 H1N1 (swine flu") influenza differ from typical influenza seasons?"
Unlike the yearly seasonal influenza waves, the 2009-2010 influenza wave involved swine flu (H1N1). Swine flu pandemic hit the United States of America in spring of 2009. The second wave of pandemic hit USA in October. This wave was worse than the first one. Gradually, the pandemic declined by January 2010. The most surprising fact about this pandemic was that it targeted individuals younger than 65 years. Therefore, the mortality rate in pediatric patients was quite high.
