Riedel's Thyroiditis

Riedel's thyroiditis is characterized by the replacement of thyroid tissue by fibrous tissue and accounts for 0.5% of the goiters. It may be associated with retroperitoneal and mediastinal fibrosis and eventually causes hypothyroidism. Treatment options include high-dose steroids and the replacement of thyroxine.
