There are overall 150 types of headaches but the most common include: tension headaches, cluster headaches, migraine headaches, chronic daily headaches, sinus headaches and post traumatic headache. Tension headache is the most common headache, distinguishing feature is a feeling of a band around the head. It usually has no accompanying features. Cluster headaches: severe in nature, sensation of burning, piercing pain behind an eye. It usually involves one eye at the time and attack is so severe that it can lead to swelling around the involved eye, watering and even a stuffy nose. It is labelled as cluster headache because it occurs in a group of 2 to 3 episode in a day and may last for weeks to months and then resolve for months to years completely. Men are more at risk for cluster headaches. Migraine headaches: are headaches that are mostly preceded by an aura, are severe, are accompanied by symptoms like nausea, vomiting and may last for days. They have multiple triggers such as noise, bright lights and disturb sleep cycle. Chronic daily headache is the headache that lasts for more than 15 days a month for more than 3 months. It is the chronic state of other headaches like migraine headaches. Sinus headache as the name suggests is due to sinus congestion and presents as tenderness on sinus areas, head heaviness and more pronounced in the morning. Post traumatic headache: the headache that begins after 2 to 3 days after a trauma to head and is accompanied by signs like vertigo, lightheadedness, concentration issues, memory problems and irritability.
