Turcot syndrome is also known as a brain tumor – polyposis syndrome or glioma – polyposis syndrome. It is a genetic disease characterized by adenomatous polyps in gastrointestinal tract and brain tumors. Individuals with Turcot syndrome present with diarrhea, bleeding per rectum, abdominal pain, and weight loss attributed to tumors in gastrointestinal tract. Neurological symptoms secondary to brain tumors are also present. On physical examination, café au lait spots and lipomas may be present. basal cell carcinoma may also be associated with Turcot syndrome.
