Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disorder of joints that results in progressive erosion of articular cartilages. Risk factors for the disease includes: 1. Primary OA: Ageing, genetic factors, mechanical stress. 2. Secondary OA: Diabetes, Ochronosis, Hemochromatosis, Obesity. Clinically the disease is found more commonly in women and affects the weight bearing joints like knee and hip. The joint involvement is asymmetric, monoarticular with involvement of larger joints seen first. Patient presents pain in joint that aggravates on movement, morning stiffness of less than 15 minutes, restricted movement and muscle weakness.
