Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also knows as prostate enlargement, is a nonneoplastic increase in size of the prostate gland. Symptoms include increased frequenc, hesitancy, weak stream, sense of complete bladder emptying, or loss of bladder control. BPH is considered a normal condition of aging. Although the exact cause is unknown, changes in male sex hormones that come with aging could be a factor. Any family history of prostate problems or any abnormalities with testicles can increase the risk for BPH.
