What is a Baroreceptor? -Small nerve receptors that detect changes in pressure within blood vessels and transmit this information to the central nervous system. -decreased in arterial pressure causes Baroreceptor to transmit few impulses and thereby stimulates the sympathetic nervous system causing an increase in cardiac rate, conduction, contractility, and an increase in circulating volume. -Sympathetic stimulation also constrict renal arterioles, increases the release of aldosterone, and increases sodium and water absorption.
