What are the key points in the examination of a patient with memory difficulty?
For physical examination of a patient having memory impairment, it is necessary to examine signs for any other disease causing this impairment or any other signs that can lead to worsening or danger for the patient with memory impairment already present. It is necessary to check neurological exam for signs of limb weakness to rule out strokes, gait abnormality or tremor to rule out Parkinson’s. It is also important to check for signs like hypotension (taking more dosage then prescribed) or dehydration (forgetting to drink enough water). The reason of examination is to make the life of the patient as convenient as possible.
