What is the antibiotic of choice in animal bites?
Animal bite can lead to bacterial infections. The most commonly infecting bacteria include: pasterulla. streptococcus, staphylococcus and gram negative rods. On receiving an animal bite, it is recommended to give antibiotics as a treatment as well as prophylaxis. The most commonly administered drugs include: co-amoxiclav and penicillin. Co-amoxiclav may be given per oral 625mg three times a day or intravenously 1.2grams three times a day according to infection.
