Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata is a type of hair loss that is non-scarring in nature that can involve any area of the body that grows hair. This is a benign condition but can lead to psychosocial stress and emotional disturbance. In some cases there can be involvement of the nails too in the form of pitting of nails or other such conditions The exact cause of this condition is not known but T-cell mediated autoimmune process is postulated to play an important role.
