How can urinary & plasma osmolality and sodium help in determining the cause of AKI?

In Pre-renal AKI, kidney function is maximum to retain salt and water. It is associated with; - High urinary osmolality i.e. 600 – 900 mosm/L - Low urinary sodium i.e. <10 mM In ATN, kidney function is compromised and does not retain salt and water maximally. It is associated with; - Urinary osmolality = 280 mosm/L - Urinary sodium >30 mosm/L
