- Glycemic control - BP control; goal is <130/85 mmHg (the lower the better, as long as tolerated by the patient) - Optimization of serum lipids; the goal is LDL <100 mg/dl and HDL>40 mg/dl. Check lipids annually - Smoking cessation - Daily aspirin (if not contraindicated) - Inspect feet at every visit - Detailed eye examination yearly - Check urine albumin to creatinine ratio annually - Measure HbA1C every 3 to 6 months
