Role of injectable corticosteroids in pain managemen Injectable corticosteroids control pain and inflammation except in patients with uncontrolled diabetes and patients with infection or skin breakdown at site of injection. Corticosteroids reduce the release of arachidonic acid, prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and IL-1 and 6. Moreover, corticosteroids directly induce membrane-stabilizing effect, nociceptive C-fiber transmission and noceptive input modulated in the dorsal horn of substantia gelatinosa.
