What are steps to perform the ring block technique for ear anesthesia?
Ring Block technique steps 1. Use an alcohol swab to disinfect the skin. 2. Carefully, insert the needle such that it does not insert the ear lobe but the skin inferior to the area where earlobe attaches the head. 3. Proceed anterior to the tragus and aspirate. 4. Infiltrate 2-3 ml anesthetic agent and withdraw the needle gradually towards the site of puncture but do not remove it. 5. Now redirect the needle and posteriorly towards the inferior posterior auricular sulcus and aspirate as you proceed. 6. Infiltrate 2-3 ml of anesthetic agent and withdraw the needle. 7. Remove the needle completely. 8. Reinsert the needle superior to area where helix attaches to the scalp. Advance the needle anterior to the tragus. Aspirate as you advance. 9. Inject 2-3 ml of anesthetic agent and withdraw the needle from the puncture site but do not remove it. Make sure you inject the subcutaneous tissue and not the ear cartilage. 10. Now when the needle is under the skin of puncture site, redirect the needle. 11. Proceed posteriorly towards the superior posterior auricular sulcus and aspirate. 12. Inject 2-3 ml of anesthetic agent and withdraw the needle.
