Oral submucous fibrosis is a chronic condition identified as fibrosis of the submucosal tissues of the oral cavity in a progressive manner that leads to restricted mouth opening and eventual inability to open the mouth. This condition results due to chronic chewing of betel quid (main component areca nut that can include pan, gutka, mawa, mainpuri tobacco e.t.c.) and have a well defined potential for malignancy.
