Eating disorder characterised by recurrent episode of binge eating and compensatory purging behaviour (eg; vomiting, diuretic abuse). More common in women and associated with OCD and mood disorders. History - Patient often have a lobg history of other comorbid psychiatric conditions (eg; anxiety, depression) and are concerned about their behaviours. - Sings: dental enamel erosion, enlarged parotid glands, scars on the dorsal hand surfaces (if history repetitive self induced vomiting), and BMI of more than 18.5 kg/m2. Patients with bulimia tend to be more disturbed about their behaviour than patients with anorexia and are therefore more easily engaged in therapy. Treatment: - Psychotherapy plus antidepressants (SSRIs). Treat comorbid psychotic conditions.
