Fissured Tongue

This is a fissured tongue showing multiple small grooves on the dorsal surface of tongue. These grooves may be shallow or deep. Often there is a large deep groove at the center. These look painful but they are pretty painless. Although sensitivity can be felt with acidic or spicy food.No cause is found for fissured tongue and it is associated with no symptoms. No treatment is necessary except to maintain good oral hygiene.
