What is a hemiarthroplasty?
It means replacing half of the joint. For example in partial hip arthroplasty, you only replace the femoral head whereas the acetabulum is not replaced. In total hip arthroplasty, both the head and acetabulum are replaced with prostheses.
The surgical procedure in which only one half of the hip joint is replaced with a prosthetic while the other half remains in its place is called hemiarthroplasty..
