Foot Amputations

Foot Amputations

The image above shows the different types of foot amputations being performed. The extent of amputation greatly depends on the degree of non-salvageable tissue present. Common causes of amputations include traumatic injury, diabetic infections, peripheral arterial disease leading to severe limb ischemia, electric burns etc. Early presentation within the salvageable window is the key to prevent this consequence. Good control of diabetes and hypertension along with decreasing the habit of smoking are some important factors which can save life and limbs!
