Leprosy or Hansen’s disease is an infectious disease of skin and peripheral nerves caused by bacteria Mycobacterium leprae. Transmission by droplets and close contact with the infected person. Symptoms of leprosy are disfiguring skin lesions, nerve damage causing muscle weakness and paresthesia. If left untreated it may lead to nose disfigurement (nose flattening), blindness, non-healing ulcers and painful nerves. Treatment includes dapsone, rifampicin, clofazimine, minocycline and ofloxacin.
