Bulbar palsy is a type of lower motor neuron palsy that results due to impact on nuclei of IXth, Xth, XIth, and XIIth cranial nerves whereas pseudobulbar palsy is an upper motor neuron palsy that involves the corticobulbar tracts of the Vth, VIIth, IXth, Xth, XIth, and XIIth cranial nerves. These conditions can result due to stroke, multiple sclerosis, infections, brain stem tumors or any such other conditions that affect the cranial nerve nuclei or its upper tracts. Both conditions usually present with dysarthria and dysphagia and different LMN and UMN lesion signs are need to be checked to differentiate one from the other.
