Flail chest

Flail chest

Flail chest is a medical emergency that occurs when 3 or more ribs are broken in at least 2 places. It is usually the result of a blunt trauma to the chest. Following symptoms are observed in this case: Breathing difficulty Chest pain Tenderness and bruising around the area. One of the main diagnostic feature of flail chest is the paradoxical movement of the separated piece of chest wall but it is not always present.
