What is the difference between aerobic and anaerobic bacteria?

aerobic bacteria require oxygen for their metabolic activities while anaerobes have various other modes of energy production which do not require oxygen, such as alcohol and lactic acid fermentation, reactions involving nitrogen and sulfur compounds. In general, more energy is produced by aerobes.
