Infantile spasms constitute a childhood epileptic syndrome referred to as West syndrome. The spasms hardly last longer than a few seconds and the baby is fine in between the attacks. During the attacks, there may be forward bending of the limbs, arching of the back or crunching of the abdomen. The facial expressions appear as if the child is surprised or staring. Such babies may end up with brain damage, poor development of milestones and underdeveloped cognitive skills. Hence, early diagnosis and management are needed!
