The Friedreich’s Foot

The Friedreich’s Foot

A high arched foot is seen in Friedreich’s ataxia, a genetically acquired disorder of spinal cord and cerebellum. Progressive neurological deformities lead to the development of scoliosis, high arched feet, loss of coordination, muscle weakness, speech and vision impairment. Pyramidal tract and dorsal columns both are likely to be involved. There is an imbalance between various agonist antagonist groups of foot muscles. The stronger group overpowers the weaker one and deformity results
