Otomycosis is a fungal infection usually caused by Aspergillus species. People living in tropical climates and those with weak immune system are mostly at risk. The common risk factors for this condition include: Swimming in dirty water Trauma Chronic discharge due to infections Diabetes mellitus The patients usually present with the symptoms of itching and hearing loss. Redness, swelling, pain and discharge may be present in complicated conditions. On examination a 'Wet Newspaper' like mass may be present in external auditory canal. The diagnosis is usually made clinically. Topical antifungals are given and thorough suction cleaning of meatus is performed. In persistent infections oral antifungals like Itraconazole may be prescribed.
