Pinworm infection is a disease caused by the pinworms, about one-half inch long worm. They inhabit the intestinal tract and lay their eggs around the skin of anal canal. Symptoms includes: Itching around the anal area, difficulty sleeping and irritability, nervousness, weight loss, loss of appetite...etc. Diagnosis: Since the eggs hatch around the anal canal, inspecting the anal canal or clothes for finding eggs will confirm the diagnosis. Treatment: Treating pinworms involves either prescription or over-the-counter drugs. Resource: New York State Department of Health.
