Dentigerous cyst in a young child

Dentigerous cyst in a young child

Dentigerous cysts are the most common type of odontogenic cysts associated commonly with unerupted or impacted teeth typically presented in the second or third decade of life. The case presented in this report is that a 10-year-old child with a hard submucosal swelling causing expansion of the buccal cortical plate. Radiographs revealed the presence of a well-defined radiolucency involving crowns of the impacted mandibular second left premolar and also the roots of adjacent teeth. The patient was treated with marsupialization of the cyst and extraction of the lower left second premolar along with preservation of involved teeth. This was followed by a space maintainer post operatively to prevent the space loss considering the age of this patient. Source: Bhardwaj B, Sharma S, Chitlangia P, Agarwal P, Bhamboo A, Rastogi K.
