I'm currently learning medicine-related things for the fun of it, but I can't learn from quizes I can't prep for. Any good books, preferably free, that give reliable medical info so I am a bit prepared for things?
Dear Christopher, Before medical school i too loved to know more about the human body. The book that i loved reading was Dummies Anatomy and Physiology. Its an easy to read book geared towards people outside the medical field. Just enought to amaze, sometimes a bit much but easy enough to read. Now in medical school when i need to freshen up physiology i use Costanzo Physiology. Its an easy to understand book compared to our medical school recommended Boron Medical Physiology. And on daily basis Sobotta Atlas and Textbook are good stuff to have. And if you really like to know more about medicine, and want an easier book than Harrisons Principles of Internal Medicine, look for the Textbook of Medicine by Souhami or Kumar and Clarks Clinical Medicine. I usually download these books online, but do recommend the paper version for the feels. Keep inspiring yourself, the passion lives because of it. I wish you luck A.
The Dean. Thank you for your recommendation. I never did respond to this, but I DID read Dummies Anatomy and Physiology and as a result went down the rabbit hole and increased my interest in medicine exponentially. This interest resulted in me retaking a lot of subjects and fully enrolling in medicine. I'm now studying it with the natural goal of becoming an MD myself. I thought I'd let you know your part in inspiring me to do so, even if I'm uncertain if you're still around. Thank you. C.
I can relate. I dont have the means, motivation, or frankly the talent required for the medical field, but i love to learn, and it's a bit sad that all of the flashcards are geared towards advanced learners; nothing wrong with that of course! Just want to know a friendly beginner area :)
