Hi I am a 15 am and extremely interested in going into he surgical career and I was just wondering if you have any recommendations on how I should Persue this career, how I should study what methods work books you would recommend ECT.
I can recommend an app called "Touch Surgery". You can see yourself whether enjoying the surgical field. Plus, you can have a favourite speciality. As a medical student, I don't recommend studying before getting into a medical school because of 2 things: 1. you may not end up there and that's totally okay, but you just spend your free time with it. 2. Medical informations change all the time. You can check pubmed how many articles they are adding in a minute. So my advice, just be great in your lectures and spend your spare time both physically and mentally. There's a reason to teach medicine at that age and you are on your growing period, use it wisely. This message got a little messed but I hope it helps 🐣
I’m 17 now but i started the medical field at 13! I would recommend anatomy and physiology books to learn medical terminology and the systems of the body in depth and diseases and treatments and a lot more. Also if your school offers medical field programs take them ( my school is a medical academy so I take trips to hospitals and work with doctors and view surgeries. i also got an internship at Johns Hopkins so if your local research school offers summer programs take them ), if not , volunteers at your local hospitals until you are eligible to get a job as a transporter or something close to the field you want to proceed.
Kylie Gilbert; there are many opportunities out there for young people to take. Many colleges have summer programs in which you learn a lot and then if you continue to do the course, you move up levels and like experience more. During your senior year summer you get to do more and work with doctors or so. Volunteer as much as you can at the Red Cross and hospitals or nursing homes for when you are able to apply to work at a hospital for a summer job, you can get a cool job like transporter or ER assistant ect. Also my school offered me medical classes and so that’s why I started at 13 also my dad bought me a surgical kit and practice on everything. I used to cut open my stuffed animals and fill them up with sausage or ham and pretend it was tumors and other stuff. Also get as much of reading you can get; meaning , study terminology and physiology a lot , it is never too early to start. I highly recommend it
how did you start in the medical field at 13, i’m 15 rn turning 16 in may but i would really be interested in getting a head start on a surgical career
Also to make the learning of the body and it’s function more fun and memorable I would recommend you to buy anatomy and physiology coloring books. Amazon has a lot of great anatomy books and also used ones can be found at your local thrift store
