Mastoid Air Cells

Mastoid Air Cells

Air cells in medical terms are air-filled cavities in bones. In human beings they are present in the bones of the skull and connect to the nasal cavity and middle ear. The mastoid air cells are thought to protect the delicate structures of the ear, regulate ear pressure and possibly protect the temporal bone during trauma. It lies medial to the suprameatal triangle. Mastoid air cells open into the floor of the antrum.
