Traumatic ruptured eye injury

Traumatic ruptured eye injury

Today’s case we have a ruptured globe (eye) injury! This woman was waiting for public transportation to start her commute to work, when all of a sudden, pop goes the weasel! A freak accident occurred where a piece of debris in the street was launched like a bullet from a car running over it into this poor woman’s eye. We see so many injuries on this page about people getting hit by cars and the amount of damage that can be done. Well even being near a car seems to be a dangerous occurrence! Even though this type of injury is rare for the trauma bay, you still start with the basics. ABCs, make sure she’s hemodynamically stable, and call ophthalmology to handle the rest. Unfortunately, a globe injury implies that the outer tissue of the eye has been completely penetrated and the eye is drained. There is nothing you can do for her vision in this eye and the only thing you can do is clean out the socket fastidiously. It’s unfortunate, but one innocent commute to work can change your life forever!
