Estrogen is most important in the proliferative phase and progesterone the secretory phase of the cycle. Estrogen surge causes LH surge, which initiates ovulation. Note the positive feedback of estrogen on LH is greater than FSH. FSH, Follicle-stimulating hormone; LH, luteinizing hormone.
