Clinical management and treatment options for brain tumour imaging represent a rapidly evolving field. New capabilities of multi-modality imaging to provide physiological information contribute to more precise diagnoses, allow differentiation of treatment effects from tumour progression, and enable more rapid prediction of treatment response. The hybrid modality of PET/MRI combines real-time soft-tissue visualization capabilities and the good functional detail of MRI with the metabolic visualization capabilities of PET. At the European Congress of Radiology (ECR 2015) in Austria, a special focus session on new frontiers in brain imaging included a presentation on the value of PET/MRI for brain tumour diagnosis. Fig. This image summarizes the multiparametric approach of comparison of two lesions: one low-grade and one high-grade glioma.
