Meniere's Disease

This is a histological picture showing hydrops in the cochlea indicating meniere's disease. It is a disease charactereized by a triad of sensorineural hearing loss, vertigo and tinnitus. Causes of this disease could be head trauma or syphilis which will result in dilation of membranous labrynth due to excess endolymph in the cochlea. Treatment is non-medically by using low salt diet and avoidance of alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine consumption. Medical treatment is thiazide, antihistamines, and anticholinergics. Surgical treatment is labyrinthectomy.
