The mechanism of injury is in an opposite manner, the trauma in the medial side of the knee produces lateral collateral ligament injury while trauma at the lateral side if the knee produces medial collateral ligament injury. Evaluation is by orthopedics physcial examinations, X-Ray to role out fractures and MRI to determine the extend of the injury. Treatment is usually conservative, consists of rest, ice, and NSAIDS such as ibuprofen.
