Rhinosporidiosis is a granulomatous disease that affect the nose, nasopharynx, oropharynx, larynx or conjunctiva. Rhinosporidiosis is caused by the protozoa, Rhinosporidium seeberi. In the past, we thought that Rhinosporidium was a fungus, but now, it's classified as an aquatic protozoa. The reservoir for this aquatic protozoa is water and soil. Clinical features of rhinosporidiosis include: epistaxis (nose bleed), nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea (runny nose). Grossly, it is a strawberry-like polypoid mass with tiny white dots. Microscopically: granumloma (epithelioid histiocytes “i.e. macrophages”, spore-containing structures).
