Rapunzel syndrome is an extremely rare intestinal condition in humans resulting from ingesting hair (trichophagia). The syndrome is named after Disney character Rapunzel (the long-haired girl in the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm). ●Trichophagia is sometimes associated with the hair-pulling disorder trichotillomania. ■Treatment:- Because the human gastrointestinal tract is unable to digest human hair, the trichobezoar (hairball) may have to be treated surgically. Patients usually also require psychiatric evaluation and treatment due to the association with impulse control disorders, especially trichotillomania.
●Rapunzel syndrome is diagnosed when trichobezoar(hair ball) is located in the stomach, with the tail in the in the small bowel or large bowel. Most cases of Rapunzel syndrome trachobezor is extending from stomach till terminal ileum. In Rapunzel syndrome trichobezoar, when found and removed from the stomach, has a long, rope like tail at its end. This tail like feature differentiates Rapunzuel syndrome from an ordinary trichobezoar that does not have a tail. ●Rapunzel syndrome occurs in people with intellectual disabilities and certain psychiatric disorders which leads to eat their own hair– a behaviour called trichophagia. These groups are thought to be at higher risk for developing Rapunzel syndrome. There are two particular psychiatric disorders that people who eat their hair are likely to have:-1.Trichotillomania and 2.Pica.
Laa haula walaa quwata illa billah... masya Allah... n tq very much 4 your information, brother... I'm really feel happy.. tq very much..
Francois Hallopeau coined the term trichotillomania (TTM) in 1889, from the Greek words tricho (hair), tillo (pull), and mania (fury). Hair pulling has been described since antiquity. Trichobezoar (hair ball in stomach) was first described in 18th-century medical literature. Hippocrates advised physicians to assess hair pulling as part of a routine mental status examination and described a case of hair pulling in the apparent context of depression (Fig. 24.12-10). Pica is characterized by an appetite for substances that are largely non-nutritive, such as ice (pagophagia); hair (trichophagia); paper (xylophagia)[1]; drywall or paint; metal (metallophagia); stones (lithophagia) or soil (geophagia); glass (hyalophagia); or feces (coprophagia); and chalk.. MasyaAllah.. really awesome.. tq brother once again... really love you... haha...
