An abnormal connection between arteries and veins, usually in the brain or spine. Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is usually present at birth. The arteries and veins in an AVM can rupture, causing bleeding into the brain or spinal cord. An estimated two-thirds of AVMs occur before age 40. Every year, about four out of every 100 people with an AVM will experience a hemorrhage. Each hemorrhage poses a 15 to 20 percent risk of deathor stroke, 30 percent neurological morbidity, and 10 percent mortality.Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are defects in the blood vessels of the circulatory system. Amalformation is an abnormal connection between the veins and arteries. This interferes with your body's ability to circulate blood. It's usuallycongenital, which means the condition is present at birth. You may feel more tired than usual for several weeks. You may be able to do many of your usual activities after 4 to 6 weeks. But you will probably need 2 to 6 months to fully recover. This care sheet gives you a general idea about how long it will take for you to recover.
